Passes + Packages on sale for the 26th Maine International Film Festival;
submissions accepted for the Maine Student Film + Video Festival

WATERVILLE, Maine ­— The Maine International Film Festival (MIFF) is back for its 26th year this July 7–16, 2023. Festival passes and packages are now available to pre-order via the Festival’s website, MIFF.org.

Throughout 10 days in July, Festival attendees will have the opportunity to see a unique slate of approximately 100 films, including premieres, made-in-Maine features, classic revivals, and short films from around the world.

“This will be MIFF’s first edition in the new Paul J. Schupf Art Center in downtown Waterville,” says Mike Perreault, executive director of the Maine Film Center. “We look forward to welcoming MIFF audiences to our three brand-new theaters and, of course, back to the historic Waterville Opera House for yet another milestone celebration of all things cinematic.”

“You not only get to see great films–you get to interact with the filmmakers: actors, directors, and cinematographers tell you their stories,” says Peg Anderson, 16-year MIFF volunteer. “My main frustration is that I cannot be in two places at once to catch everything I want to see!”

MIFF is currently accepting film submissions through April 4 via FilmFreeway.com/MIFF. In addition, the 44th Maine Student Film + Video Festival (MSFVF), which will be held during MIFF, is accepting submissions from Maine students in grades K–12 until June 15. Cash prizes and filmmaking gear are awarded to the best films. Students can learn more information and submit their films at MaineStudentFilm.org.

“There’s really no better way to watch your film than in a theatre,” says Will Marshall, winner of the Maine Public Grand Prize at MSFVF 2021. “Everyone sitting there in the shared space collectively feeling and interpreting your work is priceless.”
