Art in the Park: Cupcake Tin Art and Moth making!

Join the Colby College Museum of Art for an afternoon of art-making in Castonguay Square. Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of artist Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt in the Alive and Kicking exhibition, on view at the Joan Dignam Schmaltz Gallery of Art. Tell your story using the same materials beloved by the artist: shimmering mylar, translucent cellophane, and charming cupcake tins!

This program is free and open to all ages and levels of experience. In the event of rain or extreme heat, Art in the Park will be held indoors at the Paul J. Schupf Art Center.

Moth Sculptures with Nick Athanasiou
Create your own moth sculpture inspired by the remarkable installations in Waterville’s Castonguay Square! Nature, with its millennia-old wonders, continually takes our breath away, confounds, and ultimately inspires us. While color is often associated with pigmentation (a chemical process), it is the interaction of light with physical structures (a physical process) that predominantly features in nature. A striking example of this is the vividly colored wings of butterflies and moths! Follow a step-by-step journey to create your own moth with Australian artist Nick Athanasiou.

What is Art in the Park?
Waterville Creates, Waterville Public Library, and the Colby College Museum of Art have joined forces to offer dynamic, creative summer programming to provide arts experiences for all. Each Thursday participants at Art in the Park can listen as a book is read aloud and create art work based on that book or community theme.
