A Real Pain follows two formerly close cousins, David and Benji Kaplan (Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin), as they embark on a tour of Jewish Holocaust history in Poland following the death of their grandmother, a survivor of concentration camp internment. David is a well-off but neurotic and controlling ad salesman, while Benji is an extrovert with a severe lack of any filters. Their goal: to find and visit the house that their grandmother grew up in. As they make their way through Poland on a laugh-out-loud road trip filled with weed, sarcasm, and arguments, the two cousins begin to understand each other’s complexities as they reconnect against the backdrop of their family’s history during the Holocaust. Written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, A Real Pain is a “deft, funny, heady, beautifully staged ramble of a road movie…yet it has an emotional kick that sneaks up on you.”—Owen Gleiberman, Variety.
