Volume 6 of this popular companion exhibition to the Maine International Film Festival brings back the popular digital projections and visual artistry of Brazil’s VJ Suave

WATERVILLE, MAINE This year the Maine International Film Festival (MIFF) will pull back the curtain of the cinematic experience with an all-ages, interactive art exhibition exploring the world of film. MIFFONEDGE will once again be held at the Common Street Arts gallery in downtown Waterville, this year’s exciting exhibition features a suite of immersive sensory experiences including a trip through a virtual reality forest. The exhibition will be open daily from Saturday, July 14 through Saturday, July 21 from 12:00 – 7:00 pm. For more information about MIFFONEDGE visit www.MIFF.org.

Headlining MIFFONEDGE is the popular Brazilian new media artist duo VJ Suave, returning once more to MIFF with an exciting new virtual reality exhibit, Floresta Encantada, featuring a magical Virtual Reality (VR) forest that will respond to gestures and movements. Maine artist Susan Bickford adds to the experience with her project (Stillness) 18, which asks participants to meditate on the nature of water as they explore an entrancing cycle of a reversing falls.

New to MIFFONEDGE in 2018 is a collaborative series of pop-up art activities with The Children’s Discovery Museum that will challenge families to experiment, tinker, and get a bit messy. Additional associated MIFFONEDGE programming with Waterville Creates! will invite Festival goers to create their own forest, learn about photography by making cameras in Castonguay Square, MIFF Art Happy Hour, and more!

“We’re thrilled to offer a reimagined MIFFONEDGE experience with Volume 6 at Common Street Arts, our community’s standalone collaborative art space,” explains Festival assistant director and MIFFONEDGE curator, Jessica Shoudy. “There are so many incredible workshops and educational opportunities for all ages happening there over the course of MIFF’s ten days.”
