The appetizer to the CSO’s 20th and 21st Century concert is actually a work from the 18th century—Mozart’s timeless overture from The Magic Flute. Although certainly a work of the classical era, its vitality and innovation also set the table for a cornucopia of modern music. Two programmatic works by percussionist and Assistant Professor of Music José Martínez, and Florence Price’s Third Symphony, a work that blends the composer’s unique voice with hints of Wagner and Shostakovich will close this dynamic concert.
