Arts in Bloom weekend

Join us for a fun and creative celebration of spring! Kicking off with May’s First Friday festivities, this year’s Arts in Bloom is a multi-day affair featuring art making, live music, movies, story walks, giveaways and more. Presented in partnership with community partners, activities will be held in locations throughout Waterville.

Most events are free, anything ticketed is noted below. All ticketed events are eligible for the Youth Arts Access Fund.

Friday May 5 First Friday and Arts in Bloom!

10:30-11:30am Rhymetime for Babies, Toddlers, and their Grownups!

4-6pm Maine Children’s Home DYI Stress Ball Creations

4-7pm Reception for The Great State of Illustration in Maine

4-7pm Book giveaways at Ticonic Gallery desk

4-7pm Creative carts with Melissa Sweet inspired collages with Waterville Creates

4-7pm Flowers, Flowers, and More Flowers! Create flower art inspired by Ashley Bryan/Paula Wilson: Take the World into Your Arms with Colby College Museum of Art

5:30pm Remarks for The Great State of Illustration in Maine

5-6pm Green Screen Photo Booth with images from Illustration Institute

6:30- 8:30pm Join Halcyon for Tipping Points – a 60-minute multimedia performance combining live string quartet music with synchronous film! Panel discussion at 6:30pm, performance at 7:30pm

At Children’s Discovery Museum (7 Eustis Parkway)

7pm Madame Marie Cormier and Michael Pullen in a performance of For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again by Michel Tremblay

11am-1pm Flower Still life watercolor painting with Deena Ball

11am- 4pm Book giveaways all day at TGS gallery

11am-7pm Visit the Colby College Museum of Art’s Joan Dignam Schmaltz Gallery of Art to pick up seed packets, ready for planting in the spring and summer months.

2-4pm Walk and Sketch with Deena Ball

3-4pm Home/Stretch: a collaborative performance

a celebration of the new home for the arts in downtown Waterville, and an invitation to create connections between stories and experiences! Featuring collaborative performances and engagements from Colby students, and led by artists and Colby faculty Matthew Cumbie and José Martinez, Home/Stretch moves through and around the Schupf Arts Center to explore local history, ideas of home, and what it means to belong.

1-3pm Saturday Art Adventures- Try out a family-friendly Spring-themed art activity!
