This beginner level six-week series is perfect for the individual who is interested in working with clay but is unsure where to start.
This series will focus on key hand building techniques. Students will gain experience using a slab roller, which works like a rolling pin to create large, flat sheets of clay. Participants will construct vessels in the shape of vases, bowls, and cups and will learn coiling techniques to create unique hand-built forms. Students will learn the basics of surface decoration including using glazes with both brush and sponge techniques.
The series includes a 25-pound bag of clay, all necessary glazes, and all kiln firings during the class period. Each student can access the studio outside of class from 6am until 8pm on weekdays and from 9am until 5pm on weekends and will take home finished work.
First-time clay artists will be given individual attention, while more experienced artists may work at their desired pace. No prior experience required.
This event is eligible for the Youth Arts Access Fund, for participants ages 18 and under.
