Big Boys is “a touching, big-hearted movie that never feels like it’s outside looking in–instead it seems entirely connected to both the rawness and revelations of Jamie’s age”–
The Hollywood Reporter.
On a camping trip to the northern California woods, 14-year-old Jamie finds himself taking the first steps towards figuring out who he is–and what his sexuality might be like. Introduced to his cousin’s boyfriend Dan, Jamie begins to develop feelings for the man and questions if he may be gay. He’s had crushes on girls and doesn’t care about fashion, but he sure does seem to be attracted to large men with beards and bellies. As Jamie spends the weekend attempting to make sense of his feelings for Dan, he must also deal with his older brother Will, a snarky and homophobic teenager whose sole weekend concern is hooking up with girls–and forcing Jamie to participate.
Called an “achingly brilliant queer coming-of-age classic” by
The Guardian,
Big Boys is a lovely story about an awkward teenager’s first step towards self-acceptance and growing up.
