The Nazi Blitz of London from 1940–41 saw 1.4 million civilians evacuate the British capital, most of them children. This is the backdrop for
Blitz, the new historical fiction film from director Steve McQueen (
12 Years a Slave,
Widows). Young mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan,
The Outrun) puts her son George on a train out of the city, but when he jumps off the train in an attempt to return home, mother and child must scour a bombed-out London in search of each other.
