Block Print Holiday Cards with Lia Goncalves
Part of Community Maker Days

Learn the basics of relief printmaking and make your own set of holiday cards. Bring a small sketch or reference image and learn how to translate it into a carved block. Each participant will get to try hand printing techniques, using rolled ink or ink pads to create their own cards. Tools, paper, envelopes, and ink are provided for this two-hour workshop. We will be working with 4bar (3.5x5") sized cards. This workshop will involve using sharp tools. Participants will leave with their block, printed cards, and extra cards to continue printing at home.

Lia Goncalves, aka Portmantoad Prints, is a self-taught relief printmaker. Lia's work seeks out the silliness in nature and attempts to confuse the limits between plants, animals, and people. All Portmantoad work is printed by hand. They are a member of Pickwick Independent Press in Portland, Maine. Find them on Instagram.
