The king, not only of hearts but of “cults,” which is to say repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat attendance by audiences in love with it, at Railroad Square (and in Cambridge, MA, where it ran for five years daily at the Central Square Theater), KING OF HEARTS went virtually unnoticed when first made in 1966 before soon being discovered for its whimsical charm and anti-war message. Alan Bates and Geneviève Bujold star in Philippe de Broca’s unique comedy (in English, French and a great deal of mime) about a British soldier who takes refuge in an asylum only to discover that it is they who are the sane ones, escaping a world at war.
