It's been a long time since any film has been as eagerly awaited as Megalopolis, but when you're talking about Francis Ford Coppola, director of the Godfather movies, The Conversation, and Apocalypse Now, it's hard not to get excited! It's apocalypse-just-past in Megalopolis as architect Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver) strives to rebuild New York City as a utopia following a devastating disaster. His efforts are challenged by Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who greedily desires to maintain the status quo that serves the wealthy so well. As partisan warfare rages and the rich circle like vultures, Cesar finds himself falling in love with Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the daughter of the man who stands for everything Cesar is against. A film over four decades in the making, this mind-bending science fiction epic is perhaps Coppola's most ambitious work yet.
