“We are here to become human again.” Divine G (Colman Domingo) is imprisoned at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, one of the world’s most infamous maximum security prisons, for a crime he didn’t commit. He finds purpose as an actor in the prison’s Rehabilitation Through the Arts program, creating theatrical productions with other incarcerated men. As the group work to stage a semi-original production involving Egyptians, gladiators, Hamlet, and Freddy Krueger, they try to realize their production despite virtually no budget and a wary and emotionally guarded newcomer. With an ensemble cast comprised of formerly incarcerated actors who are alumni of the real-life Rehabilitation Through the Arts program, Sing Sing is “a cinematic work of unique empathy and hand-turned humanity, hewed from the heart, with rigorous attention paid to the creative process”—The Los Angeles Times.
