Summer’s End Celebration at Waterville Public Library!

Saturday, August 24

11am–2:45pm

Waterville Public Library

Waterville Public Library, 73 Elm Street, Waterville

Don’t let the end of summer “bug” you! Skitter over to Waterville Public Library’s Children’s Department for a back-to-school button and a series of insect-themed activities, as well as a list of upcoming library programs and events!

11am–12pm: We’ll be visited by the Chewonki Bug Mobile! Is a bug an insect? Is a spider a bug? The Chewonki’ Bug Mobile transports the world of arthropods—insects and their relatives—into the classroom. Using models, costumes, and live specimens, we explain the unique characteristics of four major groups of arthropods. The live “bug” species will introduce you to some of the fascinating adaptations essential for survival, such as mimicry, camouflage, armor, and the use of venom.

1–2pm: Serena Sanborn from Waterville Creates will help kids to Invent Your Own Bug!

2:15–2:45pm: Finish the day with Bug Stories with Mrs. Liz!

Don’t forget, most children who attend private/public schools in Waterville are eligible for a library card, regardless of where they live. Those 13 and under must have a parent/legal guardian with current picture ID. If they live outside of Waterville, we will also need proof of which Waterville school their student will attend school for the 2024–25 calendar.
