The Room Next Door

Winner of the Venice Film Festival's Golden Lion—their top prize—Pedro Almodóvar's first English language feature is a likely Oscar frontrunner for both Best Picture and for its two leading actresses, the remarkable Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. Ingrid (Moore) and Martha (Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation: Ingrid has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and she wants Martha to be nearby for her last moments.
