In a quiet village in Burgundy, France, kindly grandmother Michelle enjoys her free time with her best friend Marie-Claude. Though Michelle has a rocky relationship with her daughter Valérie, she looks forward to a visit from her grandson Lucas on All Saints' Day–a visit that is entirely upended when Michelle makes a crucial mistake and a fierce conflict between mother and daughter explodes. As Michelle's quiet retirement threatens to collapse and her past refuses to rest, matters are further complicated when Marie-Claude's son returns home after being released from prison. From French director François Ozon (Swimming Pool, Summer of '85) comes a deceptively subversive story where, "every interaction feels like a new part of the narrative, and every cheerful smile hides something more than meets the eye."—Monica Castillo, RogerEbert.com.
